Which Medications Can You Get Through CHAMPVA Meds by Mail?

Where's the list?

On VA's Meds by Mail medication page. It's organized by brand name, or by generic name when there's no brand.

VA says the list:

• shows common examples, not everything,
• may include items that are no longer available,
• may not cover every strength or supply, and
• shows brand names for reference, though you may get a generic.

How to check your medication

1. Open VA's current list. Don't rely on an old printout or screenshot.
2. Search both the brand and generic names.
3. Check the form and any notes, like tablets vs. injection, or a diagnosis requirement.
4. If it's missing or unclear, call the Meds by Mail Service Center at 866-229-7389 or 888-385-0235.

Not on the list doesn't mean not available

And not available through Meds by Mail doesn't mean CHAMPVA won't cover it. Those are two separate questions:

1. Does CHAMPVA cover the drug?
2. Can Meds by Mail supply it?

What isn't available?

• Many controlled substances, including many opioid pain medications.
• Glucose meters.
• Refrigerated medications to a PO box, like insulin. They need a street address.

Generics

Meds by Mail fills with available generics or equivalents. If your prescriber thinks you need a specific brand, ask how to handle that before sending the prescription.

Who can use Meds by Mail?

When to recheck

Before each new prescription, and any time a refill doesn't go through. Availability and drug-specific notes change.
