Which licenses can treat Veterans and families in Kentucky?
The independent counselor license in Kentucky is the LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor), issued by the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. Licensed Professional Counselor Associates (LPCA) practice under supervision, and ValorWell isn't working with supervised clinicians right now. Licensed marriage and family therapists, independently licensed clinical social workers, and licensed psychologists in Kentucky also qualify, under the titles Kentucky uses.
For telehealth, the license has to match where the client is sitting during the session. To see a client located in Kentucky, you need a Kentucky license or a valid compact privilege. See Can Therapists See Telehealth Clients in Another State?
Can you practice in Kentucky through a compact?
- Counseling Compact: Kentucky has enacted the compact but wasn't yet listed as issuing privileges as of October 2026. Until it does, counselors need a Kentucky license.
- PSYPACT: Kentucky participates, so psychologists with PSYPACT authority can practice telepsychology with clients located there.
- Social Work Licensure Compact: Kentucky has enacted it, but the compact isn't issuing multistate licenses yet.
Compact status changes often. See Counseling Compact, PSYPACT, and the Social Work Compact and the Counseling Compact map.

Important limits
- Need isn't a referral guarantee. Volume depends on client eligibility, authorizations, and fit.
- Fully licensed only. Associates and prescribers aren't a fit right now.
- Check the board. License titles and rules can change; the state board is the authority.
